A notice to high school juniors and seniors:
Transplant Support Organization (TSO) is pleased to offer a new scholarship that perpetuates the memory and spirit of deceased TSO members by fostering organ, eye and tissue donor awareness. This scholarship provides a financial incentive to high school junior and seniors for community service.
Since 2000, we have been presenting to high school health classes in the lower Hudson Valley a one period “Donate Life” program about transplantation and donation. Your school is one of at least 32 schools that we have or will present to this school year. Since teens are confronted with the question of donation when they apply for a learner’s permit or driver’s license, this is very timely and relevant information.
Here are links to a TSO Memorial Scholarship Application and a TSO Scholarship Flyer for posting. You will find the criteria for eligibility there. Basically, should a student be interested, they need to develop or participate in an educational or public service initiative relating to organ, eye and tissue donation. Some types of projects a student could do are contained in the attached file TSO DonateLifeCampaignIdeas which was created by the organ procurement organization based in Buffalo, NY.
May we also suggest that you speak with your health teacher(s) and get feedback as to how they and their students feel about our presentation. A copy of this letter is also being sent to your health teacher(s). Should you require any additional information, please let me know.
